Legends of Golf Modifies Format

The 2001 Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf will feature the better ball and modified alternate shot formats. Better ball, which has been played on all three days since 1994, will be played in the first and last rounds. Modified alternate shot will be played on the second day of the three round event.
In modified alternate shot, each player tees off on every hole. On par-5's, partners exchange balls after their tee shots and again after their second shot. After the third shot, one ball is chosen and the team plays alternate strokes until the ball is holed. On par-4's the teams must chose a ball to play after the second shot, while on par-3's they must chose following the tee shots.
In the better-ball format, players play their own ball throughout the round. Each team's better-ball score is based on the low individual score on each hole.
The new The King & The Bear course at World Golf Village will host this year's event. Course designers Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer will try to use their intimate knowledge of the course as they team up for the event for the first time.
