Miller Headed for Mormon Mission

Andy Miller, son of Hall of Famer and golf broadcaster Johnny Miller, will forgo tour life for a while and instead will spend the next two years on a mission for the Mormon Church, according to the Orlando Sentinel.
The 25-year-old was a rookie on the PGA Tour this season and finished 191st in earnings, losing his exempt status. But because he won the Nationwide Tours State Farm Open in 2002, he is fully exempt on that circuit next year.
Youve got to tip your hat to him, Johnny Miller told the paper Wednesday. I think its a special story because I dont think its ever happened before.
Miller will report Jan. 20 to Tampico, Mexico, the paper said.
The younger Miller will not have any status on any tour when he returns from his mission, but that wasnt a deciding factor in his decision -- age was.
Mormon missions must be started between the ages of 19-25. Andy turns 26 on Feb. 3.
