Monster Course Awaits Club Pros

PGA of AmericaThe 36th Club Pro Championship takes place this week in Santa Ana Pueblo, N.M., 20 minutes outside of Albuquerque. The event will be contested at the par-72, 7,624-yard Twin Warriors Golf Club.
Yep, 7,624 yards. Thats slightly misleading, however, as the course is 5,400 feet above sea level and will play about 10 percent shorter than its enormous distance.
The field will consist of 156 club professionals, representing 41 PGA Sections. The winner will receive $56,00 of the $400,000 purse. He also gets a berth in the 2003 PGA Championship, as well as a spot on the 10-member U.S. team for the 2005 PGA Cup Matches against Great Britain & Ireland.
Barry Evans, the head professional at Berry Hills Country Club in Charleston, W.Va., is the defending champion. The 41-year-old captured the crown a year ago at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Ky.
The Golf Channel will carry exclusive coverage of the 72-hole event, Thursday ' Sunday, 4:30 ' 7:30 PM ET, each day.
