PGA Tour Wins Wendys Challenge

Mark Calcavecchia made a 30-foot birdie putt on the 18th hole to secure victory for the PGA Tour in the Wendys Three Tour Challenge.
The event featured three-person teams from the PGA, Champions and LPGA tours.
It was separated into three team stroke-play matches. Each team tallied up their aggregate scores through six holes. The team with the lowest total won $100,000 on holes 1-6; $120,000 on holes 7-12; and $200,000 on holes 13-18. The second-place team on holes 1-6 got $60,000; $70,000 on Nos. 7-12; $120,000 on holes 13-18. The third-place team received six-hole payouts of $50,000, $50,000 and $80,000.
The team with the largest total amount of prize money after the completion of 18 holes ' playing from different tee boxes ' was the winner.
And, for the sixth time, it was the PGA Tour team. The PGA Tour totaled $370,000. The LPGA came in second with $270,000, and the Champions Tour split $210,000.
A member from each tour comprised the three groups: Peter Jacobsen (PGA Tour), Craig Stadler (Champions Tour) and Rachel Teske (LPGA Tour) in Group 1; John Daly, Tom Kite and Grace Park in Group 2; Calcavecchia, Hale Irwin and Juli Inkster in Group 3.
The PGA Tour easily took the first six-hole session at the Reflection Bay Golf Club at Lake Las Vegas in Henderson, Nev., with the Champions Tour second and the LPGA third. Starting from scratch at the seventh, the LPGA reversed the opening match by cruising to victory in the middle session, followed by the PGA Tour and Champions Tour, respectively.
With one fresh six-hole match remaining, it was the PGA Tour and LPGA tied at $170,000, and the Champions Tour at $110,000.
The three teams were tied at 1 under as the final group approached the par-4 18th.
Calcavecchia was first to putt. After missing a three-footer for par at 17, he more than atoned for that mistake by making a 30-footer for birdie at the last.
That was a good time to make a putt, said Calcavecchia. I putted badly all day and I really wasnt feeling it on that one. But I had a putt that I didnt really have to worry about speed and it broke six feet to the left.
It was lucky it went in, but it was pretty.
Kite, in the penultimate group, made a three-foot birdie putt at the last to give his team a chance. But Irwin, who missed a three-foot par putt at 17, couldnt convert his 20-footer for the tie.
Inkster had a chance to force a playoff with the PGA Tour, but her 18-foot birdie putt missed long and right.
Missed on the low side, too. Thats an amateur mistake, Inkster said.
As for her opponents make, Inkster said: That was a tough putt. I think you could drop 10 balls therehe just made it at the right time.
Daly had the lowest overall score. He had seven birdies and an eagle in shooting 6-under 66.
This years event raised $2.5 million for the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption.
Its an honor to be invited. Its a honor to play in this, to help the kids out, Inkster said, echoing sentiments from all those involved.
