Senior British Open Purse Doubles

The Senior British Open presented by MasterCard, one of five majors on the Champions Tour, will have a record purse of 1,000,000 ($1,607,600).

The purse for the July 24-27 event, which is jointly sanctioned by the European Tour and the Champions Tour, is double the previous largest prize fund in the history of the European Seniors Tour.
The champion in 2003 will collect a record first prize of $253,679, which represents a near 100 percent increase on the $127,000 which Japan's Noboru Sugai received for winning the Senior British Open presented by MasterCard in 2002. .
'The 100 percent increase in the prize fund for the 2003 Senior British Open presented by MasterCard is a significant milestone in the continuing development of the European Seniors Tour,' said Ken Schofield, executive director of the European Tour.
