Sunshine Tour to Name Immelman Top Rookie

Trevor Immelman is the choice for the Bobby Locke Trophy, awarded to the winner of the Rookie of the Year on the Sunshine Tour (South African). All he has to do now is wait until the 2000/2001 season is actually over.
Immelman's superb play, including his win at the Vodacom Players' Championship in December, has distanced him from other Sunshine Tour rookies.
Immelman's securing of the title of the season's best rookie seems like a natural progression for a player who had long been in his country's spotlight. Before he turned professional, he was a household name among golf followers for his impressive list of achievements in the amateur ranks.
Immelman's major achievements included winning the South African Amateur Championship in 1997, the year he also reached the final of the prestigious British Amateur at Royal St George's, losing to Scotsman Craig Watson in the final.
In 1998, he secured the national stroke play title with a superb display of golf at Mount Edgecombe. Immelman went on to record his greatest Amateur triumph when he won the U.S. Public Links title, qualifying for him the Masters.
Immelman currently sits in fourth on the Sunshine Tour's Order of Merit.
