Thorpe Goes For Three in a Row

Jim Thorpe enters this weeks Vantage Championship in Clemmons, N.C. as the man to beat on the Senior PGA Tour.
Following a season that had previously seen him record ten top-10 finishes, Thorpe has burst out in the last two weeks, winning in a playoff at the Kroger Senior Classic and then by two shots in the Allianz Championship.
He seems to be finding the same kind of form that Larry Nelson acquired in the late stages of 2000.
Entering the last week of August, Nelson went on an absolute winning rampage, taking four of five tournaments in the stretch, and finishing second in the only week he didnt win.
He wrapped up that run at this weeks event, the Allianz, and will attempt to defend this week.
This year, Nelson has been his usual rock-solid self. While he had five wins entering this event last year, today he has four for the season.
Yet, he hasnt won in the last two months, and instead has watched as Thorpe is taking control of the tour.
With nearly all the big names in attendance this week, including Bruce Fleisher, Hale Irwin, Allen Doyle, Tom Kite and Bruce Lietzke, Thope and Nelson will each have their hands full as one tries to defend and the other goes for three-in-a-row.
They will all be shooting it out for a winners check of $240,000 at Tanglewood Park, a par-70 measuring 6,600 yards.
