USGA Rejects Kontaks Application

Brian Kontaks bid to become the first man to play in the U.S. Womens Open has hit a big snag. The United States Golf Association, which puts on the tournament, has rejected his application.
Kontak attempted to play once Annika Sorenstam was invited to play in the PGA Tours Bank of America Colonial tournament in May.
Kontak is a 31-year-old who was once the leading money-winner on the Canadian Tour. He reached the final stage of qualifying at the PGA Tours qualifying tournament in 2002.
The USGA rejected the application on the basis that the applicants must be born a female.
