May 1-2, 1993 ' Fifty-eight-year-old Mickey Wright, a perennial loner since her days as the most dominant player on the LPGA Tour, made a triumphant return when she played in the Sprint Senior Tour Challenge in Tallahassee, Fla. It was her first appearance in womens golf since two appearances in 1980. She finished fifth, tied with Kathy Whitworth after shooting 78-74
May 3, 1953 ' Ben Hogans Pan American Open win in Mexico City stirs controversy when Lloyd Mangrum and others withdraw amid reports that Hogan is receiving $5,000 appearance fee
May 4, 1951 ' Francis Ouimet, the lifelong amateur who won the 1913 U.S. Open, was elected captain of Great Britains R&A. Ouimet was the first American so honored.
