July 3, 1957 ' Betsy Rawls wins U.S. Womens Open at Winged Foot when Jackie Pung was disqualified for writing down a 5 on the par-5 fourth hole instead of 6, which she shot. Pung then signed the scorecard, though the card contained her correct final score of 72 ' and was disqualified. Club members and reporters took up a collection and presented her $3,000 - $1,200 more than the first-place prize of $1,800.
