A shot that typically gives average golfers all sorts of problems is hitting a fairway wood, and especially a 3-wood, off of the ground.

The most common mistake that leads to poor shots with fairway woods is that the player tries to help the ball in the air as opposed to using the loft of the club and the speed of the swing to handle that task.

In this video segment, Michael Breed, host of The Golf Fix, is going to show you the two things that you need to do to play your fairway woods more effectively from the deck.

So keep your chest down and don’t be afraid to take a divot. Do those things and you’ll be striping your 3-wood like Phil Mickelson in no time.
