An eye on the Ryder Cup

SHEBOYGAN, Wis. – Whether U.S. Ryder Cup captain Corey Pavin has already earmarked one of his four captain’s picks, as reported Tuesday by Golf Channel contributor Jim Gray, is irrelevant to the dozen other players on the bubble to play this year’s matches.

The ever-present story-within-the-story at the PGA Championship is the scramble by some players to secure their spots on the team. This year’s race is even more compelling than most, what with the world No. 1 currently on the outside (No. 10) and a host of potential newcomers making a move.

Normally a captain will tip their hand as to who they might pick based on who they play practice rounds with in the weeks before the picks. On Tuesday Pavin played with Bo Van Pelt (No. 13) and on Wednesday he was with Dustin Johnson (9) and Rickie Fowler (17).

Each day will track the progress of those players vying for potential glory and give a glimpse into how each one is handling the pressure.
