Awash in Wales

WalesFor those wondering what kind of weather the American team can expect when the Ryder Cup is played in Wales this November “Shag Bag” offers this glimpse into the matches possibly muddy future.

On Wednesday the first round of the European Challenge Tour’s Wales Challenge was washed out by torrential rains that flooded the Vale Hotel Golf & Spa course near Cardiff, which isn’t far from Celtic Manor site of this year’s matches.

Play was suspended with less than half the field starting their first round and pools of water swamping some greens, like at the 17th hole where Challenge Tour regulars Joel Sjoholm, left, and Antti Ahokas surveyed the storm’s aftermath.

In retrospect, rain gear, not his captain’s picks, may be U.S. skipper Corey Pavin’s biggest challenge.
