BETHESDA, Md. – Roberto Castro is no stranger to first-round leads. He’s hoping this one ends better than the others, though.

The second-year PGA Tour member posted a 5-under 66 at the AT&T National on Thursday to grab an early two-shot lead, thanks to needing just 23 putts and carding six birdies.

“My goal today was to play aggressive,” he said. “Last week, after having a few good weeks, I took the foot off the accelerator and just kind of went through the motions. So my goal today was to be aggressive, try to do that again tomorrow.”

In his second start of the season, Castro grabbed a share of the opening-round lead with a 63 at the Humana Challenge, only to finish T-37. At The Players Championship, he matched that number on Thursday to claim the outright lead, but finished in a share of 19th place.

“Sawgrass was not a good Friday, but I was tied for the lead at Humana after Thursday and played good Friday,” he continued. “So it's not the first and only experience I can draw on.”

He’s hoping the third time leading on Thursday night is the charm.
