LOS ANGELES – The second round of the Northern Trust Open was suspended at 5:50 p.m. Friday because of darkness.

Just six players were on the course when the round was halted. They’ll return to finish their rounds at 7 a.m. Saturday. The third round is expected to begin at 7:45 a.m. with threesomes going off the first and 10th tees.

The projected cut is at 1 over with 78 players currently within the cut line. That could change, with a possibility that the cut could move down to even par.

Harold Varner III, playing on the Northern Trust’s special diversity exemption, is at 1 under with two holes to play.

Fred Couples, playing in the Northern Trust Open for a record 32nd time, finished at 2 over and will miss the cut for just the fourth time in this event. Rickie Fowler, Padraig Harrington, Louis Oosthuizen and defending champion John Merrick also will miss the cut.
