SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Graham DeLaet’s final-round 6-under 65 Sunday in Phoenix was tied for the lowest round of the day (Charles Howell III also shot 65). Unfortunately, it wasn’t low enough.

DeLaet posted 15-under 269 with three groups still out on the course. At the time, Hunter Mahan, Bubba Watson, Kevin Stadler and Hideki Matsuyama were all fighting for the lead. Forty-five minutes later, Stadler topped DeLaet by a stroke.

“Disappointing here to be within one,” DeLaet said. “But I’ll be back I hope.”

He hopes it, and he likely will. DeLaet now has three runner-up finishes (last week’s Farmers Insurance Open, 2013 Barclays) and three third-place finishes, but is still searching for that maiden Tour win. His last five starts have all been top 10s.

“I have been playing well for the last few months, it seems. I really feel like I worked super hard in the off-season, and it’s nice to see it paying off.”
