Ernie Els figures he doesn’t need another tune-up for the Open Championship, not after his wire-to-wire victory Sunday at the BMW International Open, his 28th career title on the European Tour.

The Big Easy has reportedly withdrawn from next month’s Scottish Open, saying that he’ll take a “nice break coming up” and make a few trips to Muirfield – site of his 2002 Open victory – to prepare for his defense of the year’s third major.

In fact, that first scouting report will come this Tuesday, according to the Scottish Daily Record, when Els will play a practice round alongside longtime friend and Alfred Dunhill Links organizer Johann Rupert.

“It’s going to be very special, and I’m sure a little emotional, stepping back out on the course as I know the memories will come flooding back,” Els said, according to the report.
