For the first time since 2008, Ernie Els will not begin his PGA Tour schedule in Hawaii.

The two-time U.S. Open champion said on his website Wednesday that he will play at Torrey Pines after a start in his native South Africa at the inaugural Volvo Golf Champions on the European Tour.

'I can tell you that straight after the Volvo Golf Champions I'll be switching my attentions to the PGA Tour where I'm entered into the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines at the end of this month,' he wrote.

'Then it's the Northern Trust Open at Riviera CC in mid-February followed by the WGC Accenture Match Play at the end of February and the Honda Classic during the first week of March.'

In 2008, Els began his year at the WGC-Accenture Match Play. In 2006 and '07, the Big Easy started his PGA Tour schedule at Riviera.

Els has made only two previous appearances in the Farmers Insurance Open, in 2005 and '10. He finished T-6 and T-5, respectively.

In 2011 Els extended to 19 seasons his streak of having at least one top-10 finish with a T-4 in the Open, his next-to-last official event.
