Trouble in paradise?
Two days later, and the PGA Tour season has yet to begin. With the threat of more rain and wind at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions – which is scheduled to finally get under way beginning at 11:10 a.m. local time Sunday – one prominent swing coach said on Twitter that he wouldn’t be surprised if at least a few players withdrew from the tournament.
Looks like they may never get started in Maui , I wonder when players will start WD. . Trying to play in this weather can mess up your swing— Butch Harmon (@43BH) January 5, 2013
Harmon went on to tweet that a few players – including one of his own pupils, Nick Watney – turned up at Kapalua simply hoping to test their new equipment. “Not a good way to test all of these in this kind of weather,” Harmon wrote.
This week’s abbreviated tournament may bode well for one of Harmon’s students, however. Dustin Johnson has won each of the past two 54-hole events on the PGA Tour, the 2011 Barclays and 2009 AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am.
