Much has been made of the improved field assembled for this weeks Humana Challenge, the byproduct of a reduced four-round schedule and a change in the golf course rotation.

The World Golf Ranking point projections for this weeks events confirmed that improvement, with the Humana winner earning 44 points, up dramatically from 32 last year and 30 the year before.

The schedule and course changes helped, as did a slight change to the European Tour schedule.

Last year, the Humana was played opposite the lucrative Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship, and nine Tour players were granted conflicting event releases to play overseas. This year, it is played opposite the Volvo Golf Champions, and just seven players asked for conflicting releases.

Next week, however, 10 players have requested releases to play Abu Dhabi, opposite the Farmers Insurance Open. The lesson here is clear: when it comes to drawing a solid field, its all about location, location, location.
