Injuries and illness on the LPGA

NORTH PLAINS, Ore. – Day 2 of the Safeway Classic is underway on a cool morning here in the beautiful countryside just outside Portland. Our coverage is underway at 2:30 p.m. ET and we'll be joined by a special guest, Nicole Castrale. A Solheim Cup team member last year, Castrale recently underwent shoulder surgery. We'll no doubt find out the details when she pops in during the show.
Speaking of injury and sickness, it seems to be a theme right now on tour. Yani Tseng is battling a right elbow problem, which has been around for the past four years. It flared up again at the Evian Masters, putting her in great pain during the win at the Ricoh Women's British Open. She was icing it every night and taking pain killers to keep the discomfort at a manageable level.
Natalie Gulbis withdrew from the Safeway Classic prior to the start of the event. Her back is still giving her problems. Meaghan Francella, who has contracted Lyme Disease, also withdrew from the Safeway. She began feeling poorly after returning from the Ricoh Women's British Open, and doctors diagnosed the rather serious condition.
