Karrie Webb was recognized for her decade-long support of the Christopher Reeve Foundation at a gala Wednesday in New York.
The Aussie was presented with the 2011 Christopher Reeve Spirit of Courage Award by the foundation, which seeks to improve the lives of those living with paralysis. After winning the RR Donnelley Founders Cup earlier this season, Webb designated her $100,000 allotment of the purse to the Reeve Foundation.
Webb's coach, Kelvin Haller, inspired her commitment to the foundation's mission. Haller has been a quadriplegic for two decades.
“Although I only knew Christopher Reeve for a short while, I have known Kelvin Haller my whole life and for the last 21 years I have watched him live quietly and very courageously with paralysis,' Webb said during her acceptance speech. 'Kelvin not only coached and mentored me since I started playing golf, he has been an incredible inspiration to me throughout my career and life.'
