Anthony Kim has come to his own defense.
He says his much publicized night out in Las Vegas had nothing to do with his withdrawal from this week’s Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open.
“I'm not going to deny my friends and I went out and had a great time in Vegas,' Kim told Sports Illustrated’s Alan Shipnuck in a story on golf.com. “But that had absolutely nothing to do with me having to W/D. People may not want to believe that, but it's true.”
Kim said his surgically repaired left thumb became sore because he was working so hard to get back in playing shape, including 5 a.m. workouts and 36-hole practice sessions in Palm Springs, Calif., the week before Timberlake’s event. He told Shipnuck he hired a personal trainer two months ago and is in the best shape of his life. He said he was out late Monday night and into Tuesday morning knowing he wasn’t going to be able to practice after consulting on Sunday with two doctors, who told him to rest the thumb until Wednesday's pro-am.
About a report that he bought 115 bottles of alcohol and sprayed a $25,000 bottle of Dom Perignon onto the dance floor of a Vegas club, Kim said: 'That stuff is way, way exaggerated. There have been some crazy reports, like I was drinking 100-year-old cognac. I don't even know what cognac tastes like.'
