NORTON, Mass. – For all those who contend long putters are the domain of desperate men, GTC offers anecdotal Exhibit A.
Brandt Snedeker, your co-leader through something less than 36 holes at the Deutsche Bank Championship, is widely considered one of the circuit’s top putters. He ranked first in putting average last year and is currently fourth in the new strokes-gained putting category.
Despite that smooth resume, Snedeker admitted to GTC this week at TPC Boston that he plans to tinker with a long putter in the off-season.
“I’m a big proponent of having the shortest club in the bag being the putter,” Snedeker said. “But you can’t blame a guy for trying it. I think every guy will try it, I’m going to mess around with [it].”
There you have it: the long putter, not just for the meat-handed anymore.
