SAN MARTIN, Calif. – Hideki Matsuyama continues to impress. The 21-year-old from Japan birdied his final three holes Sunday to shoot 5-under 66 and tie for third at the Open.

It marks Matsuyama’s best -career finish on Tour, with his previous best effort a T-6 at this year’s British Open. He hasn’t finished worse than T-21 in his last seven Tour events, beginning with the U.S. Open.

Matsuyama is a PGA Tour member this season thanks to earning enough money as a non-exempt member in 2013.

Japanese compatriot Ryo Ishikawa tied for 21st after shooting 1-over 72 in the final round.
