BETHESDA, Md. – Rory McIlroy wouldn’t mind taking up PGA Tour membership next year, but he isn’t going to do so if the current rules remain in place requiring members to play 15 events, according to his agent, Chubby Chandler.

Chandler said McIlroy would consider joining the PGA Tour if he could do so playing a minimum of 12 or 13 events and also not play the FedEx Cup playoffs. The FedEx Cup requires too large a late summer commitment to balance the International schedule McIlroy wants to play.

“Rory will not play 15 [PGA Tour] events,” Chandler said.

Chandler said he would like to see the PGA Tour “relax its rules” and said he discussed the possibility with PGA Tour officials this week.

The Tour’s reaction to his ideas?

“I have no idea,” Chandler said.
