ARDMORE, Pa. – There are no delays on “Air Lefty,” which is good news for Phil Mickelson who arrived at Merion on Thursday nearly an hour and half before his 7:11 a.m. ET tee time.
Mickelson returned home to San Diego on Monday night to attend his daughter’s eighth-grade graduation on Wednesday and flew back to Merion on a “red-eye” flight that left Carlsbad, Calif., at 8:15 p.m. PT and landed in Philadelphia at 4:30 a.m.
Mickelson, who finished tied for second last week in Memphis and prepared for this week’s Open at his home course the last few days, arrived at Merion at about 5:30 a.m. and went through his normal warm-up routine.
Lefty has five runner-up finishes in the U.S. Open, the last coming in 2009 at Bethpage.
