Phil Mickelson and his golf-course design team have been selected to renovate the North Course at Torrey Pines in 2015.

City golf manager Mark Marney told Tod Leonard of the San Diego Union-Tribune that the $7 million project will include “18 new greens, renovated bunkers and tees, full cart paths, improved irrigation practices and possibly some new tees for tournament play.”

In January, it was reported that Mickelson had been given approval to submit a proposal for the restoration, and he even offered to waive his design fee.

The South Course, host of the 2008 U.S. Open, is the more famous of the two tracks, though Mickelson has been critical of Rees Jones’ changes there.
