Fourteen players have been invited to participate in next month’s Curtis Cup practice session.
The session for the prospective players will be held Jan. 31-Feb. 2 at Champions Golf Club in Houston. The 2014 matches will be played June 6-8 at St. Louis (Mo.) Country Club.
The 14 players (listed in alphabetical order): Casie Cathrea, Doris Chen, Karen Chung, Lauren Diaz-Yi, Kyung Kim, Alison Lee, Erynne Lee, Ally McDonald, Nicole Morales, Grace Na, Annie Park, Ashlan Ramsey, Mariah Stackhouse and Emma Talley.
All 14 players are inside the top 100 of the Women’s Amateur Golf Rankings as of Dec. 16, led by world No. 1 Alison Lee. Though invitation to the practice session does not guarantee a spot on the eight-person team, it is generally a good indicator of which players are on the USGA’s radar.
The U.S. team will be captained by Ellen Port, a six-time USGA champion and two-time Curtis Cup team member.
Team GB&I won the 2012 matches, but the U.S. leads the overall series, 27-7-3. The Americans have not lost on home soil since 1986.
