On the bubble

KOHLER, Wis. - Phil Mickelson teed off just after 8 a.m. (CT) at Whistling Straits with an interesting assortment of practice-round partners.

Lefty was playing with Jeff Overton, Steve Marino and Dustin Johnson, all three young Americans harboring Ryder Cup aspirations as Sunday's deadline for automatic qualifying closes in.

It's also worth noting that U.S. captain Corey Pavin was in the group behind Mickelson playing with Bo Van Pelt, another U.S. player on the Ryder Cup bubble.
