ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Welcome to the majors, Ryann O’Toole.

Playing the first round in her first major championship, the LPGA rookie blitzed the back nine at the Wegmans LPGA Championship Thursday morning at Locust Hill Country Club.

She birdied four of the last six holes on the way to a 3-under-par 69.

“My motto today was 'effortless,' because when you play well, it feels effortless,” O’Toole said.

O’Toole, 24, a 2009 UCLA grad, is a Golf Channel 'Big Break Sandals Resort' alumnus. She’s playing the LPGA on conditional status after finishing seventh on the Futures Tour last year. This is just her fourth LPGA event. She tied for 32nd at the Avnet Classic in her LPGA debut last month, missed the cut at the Shoprite Classic and tied for 52nd at State Farm two weeks ago.
