LEMONT, Ill. – U.S. Ryder Cup captain Corey Pavin’s four picks made an impact on the Ryder Cup betting odds.

Las Vegas Sports Consultants lowered the odds against the Americans with Tuesday's announcement that Pavin had selected Tiger Woods, Zach Johnson, Stewart Cink and Rickie Fowler as his captain’s picks.

With the news, Europe dropped from a 4-to-7 favorite to a 2-to-3 favorite.

Basically, that means you have to place a $3 bet on the Europeans to win $2.

“That still makes Europe a heavy favorite,” said Mike Seba, a senior oddsmaker at Las Vegas Sports Consultants.

Seba said Woods’ being named was a factor in his decision to lower the odds against the United States.

“Even though Tiger hasn’t played well, the public sees he’s starting to play better,” Seba said. “He’s building his game up and getting more confidence.”

Seba said the selections of veterans Johnson and Cink also were factors in lowering the odds.

“The selection of Rickie Fowler didn’t really have any effect,” Seba said.
