Piercy nabs playoff spot with final push

Scott Piercy made the biggest FedEx Cup Playoffs move on Sunday at the Wyndham Championship, closing with a 68 to tie for eighth and move to 125th on the final regular-season points list, a jump of 15 spots.

The top 125 on the points list qualify for the first post-season event next week in New Jersey, The Barclays, and Piercy was the only player to make a last-minute jump at the Wyndham. Chris Stroud, who missed the cut in North Carolina, dropped from 124th to 127th on the points list.

Last year, Heath Slocum entered the playoffs 124th on the points list, won the opener in New Jersey and finished eighth on the season-ending points list.

But the most interesting move on the points list involved a player who wasn’t even in the Wyndham field. Tiger Woods dropped from 108th to 112th and will need a solid week at Ridgewood Country Club to advance to the second Playoff event outside Boston.
