RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. – Morgan Pressel positioned herself for a weekend run at winning a second Kraft Nabisco Championship.
Pressel closed out a 3-under-par 69 with a 20-foot birdie putt at her final hole, easing some frustration after missing a 3-footer for birdie three holes earlier.
The closing birdie bumped Pressel into a tie for fifth, four shots behind the leader, Stacy Lewis.
Pressel’s putter consistently delivered Friday. Though she hit just 8 greens in regulation, she needed only 22 putts.
Pressel became the youngest winner of a major championship when she claimed the Kraft Nabisco at 18 years, 10 months and 9 days old in 2007. She's 22 now.
“I wasn’t tremendously sharp today, but I gave myself some good chances and made some good saving putts on holes where it got away from me a little bit,” Pressel said. “On the back nine, I started to come out of my shots a little bit, and everything was right, needing par saves.”
