Ricoh has reached an agreement to continue as the title sponsor of the Women’s British Open through 2016, the LPGA announced Wednesday.
“The Ricoh Women’s British Open has always been a key event on the LPGA schedule and one which the players look forward to due to its long and prestigious history, world-class host golf courses and great hospitality,” LPGA commissioner Mike Whan said in a release. “I am delighted that this is set to continue for many more years with this announcement today.”
The Ricoh Women’s British Open was founded by the Ladies Golf Union in 1976 and is staged in conjunction with IMG, the world’s largest sports marketing company. The event has been co-sanctioned by the LPGA and LET since 1994, and became a major in 2001.
The 2012 Ricoh Women’s British Open begins Thursday at Royal Liverpool in Hoylake, England.
