ATLANTA – Kevin Streelman, the media’s poster child for all that is wrong with the FedEx Cup, doesn’t seem to be impacted by any of the controversy, particularly since his first trip to East Lake also comes with invitations to three of next year’s four majors.

Streelman has only played in two majors (this year’s PGA and last year’s U.S. Open) and his first trip down Magnolia Lane was particularly inspiring. So much so that he nervously switched on his phone Sept. 12 during his flight home to Arizona from the BMW Championship to find out if he’d finished in the top 30 on the FedEx Cup points list.

“Once we slipped below 5,000 feet I turned my phone on and had a ton of messages and texts,” Streelman said. “I was so excited because it meant I was going to the Masters and my dad could caddie for me in the Par-3 Contest.”

You may not like the system that landed Streelman his first trip to Augusta National, but you have to like the man.
