Justin Thomas enjoyed a heck of a start to his pro debut Thursday.

The former U.S. Walker Cupper birdied the last hole to shoot a 6-under 66 and sits just two shots off the lead at the Dunhill Links Championship.

Thomas got off to a hot start at the Old Course, one of the three courses used in the event rotation. He mixed eight birdies with two bogeys and is two shots behind five players. He will play Kingsbarns on Friday.

Thomas, 20, decided to forgo his final two years of eligibility at defending NCAA champion Alabama and turn pro after the Walker Cup, where he went 2-0-1 in helping lead the U.S. team to a lopsided victory.

The 2012 NCAA Player of the Year will make his first pro start in the States at the Open Oct. 10-13, the first event of the 2013-14 PGA Tour season.
