LEMONT, Ill. – Tiger Woods missed the fairway with his first swing with his driver Friday morning at the BMW Championship.

He pushed his tee shot right at his second hole, the par-5 11th. He hung his head and sighed watching his ball sail onto an awkward sidehill lie behind a tree. Woods struggled with wayward tee shots all day on Thursday in his round of 73. He hit just five fairways in the first round. There is a premium on driving at Cog Hill with its narrow fairways and confounding tree lines.

The good news Friday is that Woods' iron play looks crisp. After laying up short over the tree at the 11th, Woods' approach appeared to be blocked to a pin tucked left behind a tree line, close to 200 yards away. Woods, though, hit a gorgeous draw around the trees and hit the green. He got a huge ovation for the shape of the shot. He missed a 30-foot birdie putt for a par-par start.
