ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates – The most-talked-about item on the Abu Dhabi practice tee this week has been how much Tiger Woods received in appearance fees to play the event, with estimates ranging from $1.5 million to $2.5 million.
On Tuesday, Woods declined to reveal his price for the week, but a source familiar with the situation told Golf Channel on Wednesday that his market value remains the same and that he is not taking a discounted appearance fee to play this week’s European Tour stop.
Woods also was asked whether an appearance fee ever influenced his decision to play a tournament?
“It certainly does,” he said while stopping well short of endorsing a policy on the PGA Tour that would allow fees. “Where we offset it is our prize money is pretty high. We have an availability to play for more money.”
