After a devastating knee injury, Lindsey Vonn has returned to competitive downhill skiing with her sights on the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi.

On NBC’s “Today” show on Monday, Matt Lauer asked Vonn whether she has learned anything about mental or physical preparation from Tiger Woods, whom she began dating earlier this year.

“Definitely,” she said. “Patience. I’m not a very patient person. … He is very patient. He’s very mentally tough and he’s a grinder. He works extremely hard and he obviously also had an ACL injury, had the same surgery. He knew what I was going through. He just said, ‘Be patient, keep working hard, and everything is going to turn around.’ It really helped me get through it.”

Vonn blew out her knee in February while at the World Championships. Woods underwent reconstructive surgery on his knee in 2008.
