Weekend woes: Villegas cards highest Day 3 score

SAN MARTIN, Calif. – The question Friday was: Can Camilo Villegas carry over his good weekday play into the weekend? The answer Saturday was: No.

After rounds of 68-66 to get within four of the 36-hole lead at the Open, Villegas shot 6-over 77 in Round 3. He’s now tied for 60th place, 13 shots off the lead. Open: Articles, videos and photos

After a bogey at the sixth, Villegas dropped another shot at the par-5 ninth. His second shot finished in the greenside water hazard. He tried to play the ball where it lie, but it ricocheted off the bank on his third swing and landed behind him in the water.

He made two more bogeys and a double bogey on the back nine. His 77 was the highest score of the day.

Villegas, winless on Tour since 2010, has had troubles this season following up good rounds on Thursday and Friday.
