NEWPORT, Wales – Europe’s having fun in the team room and even on the first tee in practice sessions, evidenced in the seven curly-headed wigs players wore to greet Rory McIlroy before Wednesday’s play.

European captain Colin Montgomerie said it was designed to loosen up McIlroy in light of the heat he’s been feeling after saying the Euros “fancy” their chances against Woods.

“It was getting a little out of hand tabloid-wise,” Montgomerie said. “The caddies and the players decided that we’ll get Rory on the first tee and make him feel part of the team again. That was the right thing to do. We are all back on level terms again.”
