World ranking tells AT&T tale

NEWTOWN SQUARE, Pa. – The AT&T National avoided the ultimate indignity, edging this week’s French Open in the Official World Golf Ranking math, but not by much.

According to this morning’s points distribution list from the OWGR, the champion at Aronimink will earn 44 points while the winner in France will get 40. It’s worth noting, however, the 44-point total is the same as last week’s Travelers Championship and less than Bubba Watson received for winning this year’s Zurich Classic.

It’s also telling that this week’s “invitational” is playing with a short field, following the withdrawal of Lucas Glover and Graham Delaet on Friday. Glover withdrew after nine holes due to illness while DeLaet stepped down before he teed off on Thursday but officials were unable to find an alternate.
