The clock has been ticking on Ping's tried and true two year product cycle since the introduction of the S58 and Rapture irons. GolfWRX recently obtained pictures from a Japanese website which pictures a new Ping iron - the S57. Whether this will be the official version that makes it to the U.S. market or not remains to be seen. However, all signs appear to point to yes.
The S58 is Ping's iron for the most accomplished players. With a thin top line and sole it's Ping's answer to a forgiving blade. The S57 builds on the S58's insert filled tuning port and dual depth cavity which help create a lower center of gravity and perimeter weighting for forgiveness and a traditional appearance.
However, the S57 appears to have the tungsten weight from the Tour W wedges which will give it an even lower center of gravity than its predecessor. The orange coloring seems consistent with Ping's current G10 line.
Will the S57 actually make it to the U.S. market, or is it another impressive golf product destined to retain the 'Japanese Domestic Market Only' moniker? The golfing public will likely have to wait until fall 2008 to find out for sure.
