Hoch Latest to Withdraw

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. -- Scott Hoch became the fifth player to pull out of The Players Championship when he withdrew Thursday morning due to a wrist injury.
Ernie Els and Ian Leggatt also withdrew because of wrist injuries. Phil Mickelson decided not to play after his wife gave birth to their third child. And Thomas Bjorn didnt make the trip with his wife expecting to deliver twins.
Hoch, who won three weeks ago at the Ford Championship, said the wrist was bothering him after his Wednesday practice round. He also dealt with the problem at Doral, where he almost pulled out while warming up prior to the first round.
The field has now been reduced to 144 players. First alternate Aaron Baddeley would only be added if the field dropped below its current number.
Baddeley needs to play this week in order to try and qualify for The Masters. He is 18th on the money list, with the top 10 after this week getting invitations to the seasons first major.
