PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. – In what may be a sports business first, David Duval has signed an endorsement deal that was born from Twitter.

Late last year Duval tweeted that he was planning “a couple of weeks off” and that his next start would be the McGladrey Classic. In response, Jim Johnson – who, like Duval, lives in Denver – replied with an offer.

Johnson is the managing partner of Mobile Solutions Inc., a Denver-based consulting firm that helps companies manage their different mobile platforms.

“As the company has grown we were looking for a way to get our name out there and we’re all big golf fans,” Johnson said. “I’ve been following (Duval’s) career and he sent out a tweet and I responded back to him and we started talking.”

Duval began using a Mobile Solutions golf bag this week at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am and on Wednesday he participated in a photo shoot for an upcoming marketing campaign.
