Defending Champs Texas Lead Mens State Team Event

USGA MenTHE WOODLANDS, Texas -- Defending champion Texas shot a 7-under 137 Tuesday to lead after one round of the 2007 USGA Men's State Team Championship.
Led by Trip Kuehne's 4-under 68 and Jonathan Mathias' 3-under, the Lone Star State leads the teams from Alabama and Tennessee by three strokes at the Fazio Course at the Club at Carlton Woods.
Alabama's Will Swift and Tennessee's Thomas Smith posted the low score of the day at 5 under, but paired with the next best score from their respective teams, each state is a 4 under.
Texas' third team member Terrence Miskell shot even-par, but the worst score from each three-member team is discarded.
'You can't complain about that,' said Miskell. 'That's one good thing about being with two players like this in a team event. You like throwing out even par.'
The team from Oregon is at 3 under, while Ohio and Georgia are at 2 under. Wisconsin and South Dakota round out the teams in red figures at 1 under.
The second round of this 54-hole event continues on Wednesday.
There are 52 teams from all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the District of Columbia entered in this event, which takes place every other year.
