European Tour Visiting Spain

European TourMADRID, Spain -- Playing opposite the Match Play event is the Open de Madrid, where Ian Poulter was a runaway winner in 2006.
Poulter fired four rounds in the 60s to roll to a 22-under total, which was good for a five-stroke win over Ignacio Garrido. Poulter carded 24 birdies and just two bogeys on the week and those bogeys both came in the final round.
There have been five Spanish winners here accounting for nine titles.
Seve Ballesteros won this title three times and is the last Spanish winner. That win came back in 1989. There are slated to be 17 Spaniards in the field this week, 11 of whom have won on the European Tour.
The last playoff here came in 2001 when Retief Goosen claimed the title. That was one of just three playoffs in the event's 32 years.
The GOLF CHANNEL will have tape-delayed action of all four rounds.
Next week, the European Tour has the inaugural Portugal Masters.
