Kennedy Leads Play Halted in Madeira

SANTO DA SERRA, Madeira -- Brad Kennedy stands at 9 under par through five holes of the third round of the Madeira Island Open. The event was suspended Saturday due to darkness.
Weather has caused delays throughout the event. Rain forced the suspension of play Friday and a rain delay Thursday led to a suspension due to darkness.
Tournament officials plan to resume the third round at 3:00 AM (ET) Sunday with the final round commencing immediately after third round play is completed. Players will not re-pair for the final round.
Jamie Spence, who held the lead following the completion of the second round at minus-11, is 5 over for his third round and shares second place at 6 under par through six holes. Steven Jeppesen and Knud Storgaard are also at minus-6 through eight and five holes, respectively.
Kennedy, who was in the lead late in the second round which was completed Saturday morning, finished bogey-bogey to fall one stroke behind Spence to enter the third round. Kennedy, however, grabbed the lead as Spence slid down the leaderboard early in the third round.
Kennedy opened with four straight pars in the windy conditions of the third round. The Australian then dropped a stroke at the par-4 fifth, and had parred the sixth hole before play was halted.
Spence, who opened with rounds of 66 and 67, struggled badly to start the third round. He bogeyed the first and faltered to a double-bogey at the next, which dropped him to minus-8.
The Englishman bogeyed the fourth and the sixth to tumble into a share of second place.
Jeppesen opened with two bogeys and a birdie over his opening four holes. He moved into a tie for second place with a hole-in-one at the par-3 eighth.
Storgaard stumbled out of the gate with a bogey at the first and a double-bogey at the next. He did manage a birdie at the third, before three straight pars.
Sam Walker, Paul Broadhurst and Rob Rashell are at 5 under par, where they share fifth place. Warren Bennett, Garry Houston and Euan Little are one stroke further back at minus-4.
