LPGA Returns Stateside for Safeway

Safeway Classic Logo 2007PORTLAND, Oregon -- After three straight events outside the United States, the LPGA returns to the States for the Safeway Classic.
Pat Hurst held off a trio of players last year to collect her fifth LPGA Tour title. Hurst carded three rounds in the 60s and her closing 68 helped her move past the four second-round co-leaders.
The Columbia Edgewater Country Club is hosting this 54-hole event for the 17th straight year and 24th time overall.
In 2002, Annika Sorenstam set all kinds of scoring records en route to her first win here. She opened with a 10-under 62 to set the 18-hole mark, then went on to establish the 36-hole (131) and 54-hole (199) records.
The LPGA moves to Illinois next week for the State Farm Classic, where Sorenstam won last year.
